Meet adorable Kalley-Mae Makanamakamae Yee!

After 23 weeks and 3 days bonding with Mommy, Kalley-Mae Makanamakamae Yee had enough and was born on 12-18-18 at 6:12 pm at Kapi’olani Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii.  At birth she weighed 1lb 6.6 oz and was 11.81 inches long.

Being a micro-preemie and unable to breath on her own, she was instantly intubated with a breathing tube.  She fought for her life and persevered through PDA Ligation surgery, countless blood transfusions, Pulmonary Hypertension, Chronic Lung Disease, surgery to correct her Retinopathy of Prematurity, and bouts with her various breathing machines.  Each day was both a battle and a blessing.

Kalley-Mae’s NICU stay lasted 183 days where lifelong friendships were made with so many Doctors, Nurses, and Staff.  Kalley-Mae and her parents, Kevin and Cherilyn Yee, were able to move back to Hilo, Hawaii in September 2019 and start her life at home.  She continues to work with Easter Seals Hilo therapists to make sure she stays on track with growth and development.

At 19 months old, Kalley-Mae is running around and trying to put everything in her mouth to see if it’s edible.  Her favorite cartoons are Dave & Ava and Cocomelon… especially singing the ABC’s and Itsy Bitsy Spider.  Her favorite foods include Chicken Nuggets, Rice, and Broccoli.  You can follow her story on IG #kalleymaesjourney.  Mahalo to Preemieworld for the honor to be featured.
