Gloria M. Crockett, MAOM, ASQ-CMQ/OE
Sr. Director of Quality | Prolacta Bioscience
“I am proud to be a part of a team that is “Leading the human milk industry in quality and safety.”
PREEMIEWORLD: How long have you been working in your field?
GLORIA: I have been working in the preemie nutritional space for 8 years, my former career was in biological products for 30 years.
PREEMIEWORLD: Why did you choose your current profession?
GLORIA: I have my bachelors in Biology and I wanted to pursue a career in laboratory science so that I could contribute to science and help save lives. I worked in the Biological products industry that provided life saving plasma products around the world. I now work in the Nutritional products business to help save the lives of premature and very low birthweight infants around the world.
PREEMIEWORLD: Tell us about the Athari Council and how it supports Black families with preterm infants.
GLORIA: While I truly enjoy all aspects of my job, I am by far the proudest of my role as chair of the recently established Athari Council at Prolacta. Created in 2020, the Athari Council is dedicated to the study and advancement of Black maternal health and equity in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).
The goal of the Athari Council is to uplift Black families in the NICU and beyond by working closely with select, like-minded organizations throughout the US to educate and enlighten healthcare providers to improve care for these families. Comprised of eight employee members (and counting!), the Athari Council is focused on making a tangible contribution to the fight against healthcare inequities, especially among Black families and how they are treated in the NICU.
PREEMIEWORLD: What do you want other professionals to know about what you do?
GLORIA: I lead a team of quality professionals that have the unique opportunity to release products through testing and manufacturing records review to ensure the supply of life saving nutritional products that we manufacture at Prolacta Bioscience.
PREEMIEWORLD: What advice do you give to preemie parents?
GLORIA: Advocate for the best products for your preemie baby, for long term outcomes. Ask the hard questions.
PREEMIEWORLD: Fun Facts: Tell us a fun or quirky fact about you.
GLORIA: I love artistic rubber stamping.
PREEMIEWORLD: Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
GLORIA: I am driven everyday to do beyond my best for the preemie patient!
