You told us, we heard you! PreemieWorld is working on a free gifts program for families in the NICU, preemie or not. Each month we will highlight trending topics around our community.
1 in 10 of all premature babies will have a permanent disability such as lung disease, cerebral palsy, blindness or deafness. 1 in 2 of premature babies born before 26 weeks of gestation will have some sort of disability. This month we are providing information with free resources and support for parents with a preemie with a disability.
- Childcare.gov: Here are some resources to help you be your child’s best advocate and support your child’s growth, development, and well-being. These resources can help you learn about the laws that ensure your child has access to the supports and services they need to thrive as well as programs and services that help children with disabilities. - CA WIC Association: WIC Can Help families get critical services for their children with special health care needs. Learn more: WIC Asso
Early Start: The Early Start program is California’s early intervention program for infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families. Early Start services are available statewide and are provided in a coordinated, family-centered system. Learn more: Early Start
Wheelchairs 4 Kids: Wheelchairs 4 Kids is a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of children with physical disabilities by providing wheelchairs, home and vehicle modifications as well as other assistive equipment at no charge to the families through their Let’s Roll Program. They also have an inclusion program called Wheely Fun Days! Kids are taken out for fun adventures such as going to the Bucs Training Camp and WWE events as well as indoor skydiving, zip lining and water skiing using adaptive equipment.
