February is dedicated as Black History Month, honoring the triumphs and struggles of African Americans throughout history. We have come a long way, however, statistics show we have much more work to do. In the U.S. alone, the CDC reported that black women experience maternal mortality at a rate 2-3x higher than that of white women and the rate of preterm birth among African-American women was about 50% higher than the rate of preterm birth among white women.
