January 2022 – Org Highlight

Org: His Heart Beats
Founder: Tamara Trevino
Established: 2016
Outreach: State – Central Valley of California
Website: www.hisheartbeats.org

Focus: Our essential focus is on sick children and their families in hospitals or those traveling for specialized medical care throughout the state of California. We primarily serve NICU babies, Pediatrics patients through 17 years old with any medical illness.

Background: This organization was founded by personal experience of a NICU mother with a preemie, child with a congenital heart defect and who has had heart surgeries. After learning that there was a gap in support services for herself, she was determined to start a group of supporters to encourage the community to mobilize its efforts to bring awareness and tangible means to help. The organization is an expression of hope to future parents of sick children as a means of support and encouragement and to provide everyday people a way to join in to help.

Additional Info: We have many ways for everyday people to help. Our heart jars are a way that families’ offices and groups collect change that we turn into gas cards for families or coffee cards for drinks.

We are launching our new Sunshine Art where families can request a paint night kit for long timers in the hospital or recovering at home to do, using art as a healing tool.

Our Back 2 School event, Soles & Cuts was successful in that we had nearly 300 pairs of new shoes given away along with free haircuts to kids throughout the community to mobilize the community around all kids and to share our mission of hope for sick kids.
