⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐for Freddie: A Movie for Special Needs Parents
Nicole Conn, Preemie Mom to Nicholas and author/director/producer of little man and co-founder of PreemieWorld and co-author of The Preemie Parent’s Survival Guide to the NICU is launching More Beautiful for Having Been Broken, a new film at month’s end surrounding the life of one special needs boy, Freddie. I was honored to be one of the first few to review this movie. And what a movie it is for our community. For those that have seen the award winning little man, prepare for yet another beautiful film. 
Every parent that has ever watched their child struggle to live in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and then to go on with life struggles will relate to Mom Samantha (Kayla Radomski) and her son Freddie (Cale Ferrin). Samantha is Mama Bear on steroids, something we all can relate to as NICU Moms.
And Freddie, faced with lifelong disabilities is more than just a charming little boy who happens to be in a wheelchair. He carries the film as the philosopher, the honest voice that speaks to the struggles of his world but continues to revel in the love, attention and quirky humor of his blended extended family. Freddie is all of our special needs kids in one body trying to make his way in the world despite the challenges and knowing he also brings to it incredible gifts as the very essence of the biggest superhero in film this summer. The film’s main scenes are surrounded by gorgeous dance sequences by Freddie’s Mom who uses this as her outlet from the daily stress. But bit by bit we see the dance sequences show the drama that unfolds within the family, within relationships with others including McKenzie (Zoë Ventoura), an FBI agent on leave and Samantha’s love interest. The delightful surprise is that even young Freddie himself joins the incredible movement sequence. In that moment every parent of a special needs child will watch Freddie in awe and will see him and their own child in a whole new way.
Conn has outdone herself yet again with a movie that is honest, refreshing, moving and absolutely riveting cinema. From gorgeous mountain cinematography to artful dance sequences to soulful music, Conn wrapped this film with the purest forms of love and respect.
