Changing lives by empowering and inspiring our children.
The Children’s Action Committee (CAC) is an advocate for Mendocino County’s community to prevent and respond to child abuse. The CAC is a subcommittee of the countywide Policy Council on Children and Youth (PCCY) — a state-mandated collaborative group of agencies and community representatives working together to improve the quality of services provided to children, youth, and their families in Mendocino County.
The CAC was established in early 2004. After the CAC was established, the group developed a Guide to Creating a Communications Campaign to Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect in Mendocino County (November 2004.) Following the developing of the guide the group was able to develop a strategic plan with implementation projects that have successful short/long term outcomes. In 2005, the CAC developed a coordinated public relations campaign.
As part of the public relations campaign the CAC created a Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Kit. The CAP Kit contains a video (In Our Community DVD), PowerPoint presentation, educational brochures and books on child abuse and neglect. CAC members took the CAP Kit to community groups and events countywide to raise public awareness about child abuse.
