Babycycle is South Pinellas County’s only community diaper bank. Babycycle serves low-income children ages 0-12. At Babycycle, our mission is to provide as many children as possible with clean diapers, wipes, clean clothing, food and other basic necessities. In 2016, we served 15,695 children in the Tampa Bay area through our 22 partner agencies.
We firmly believe that it is every child’s basic right to have access to clean diapers. Leaving children in dirty diapers not only affects their physical health, but also their emotional well-being. The inability to provide their children with a sufficient supply of diapers also negatively affects the mental and emotional health of parents; ultimately causing damage to the parent-child relationship. Statistics show that one in three parents struggle to provide their children with the needed amount of clean diapers. That means, one in three children are sitting in unclean diapers for extended periods of time, placing them at high risk for severe diaper rash and infections.
Diapers are not covered by any government assistance programs, even though diapers are a necessity for EVERY child. According to the National Diaper Bank Network:
Without diapers, babies cannot participate in early childhood education programs. Without child care, parents cannot go to work.
Children that participate in early childhood education are almost 3 times more likely to go on to higher education.
